Swedish Prison Pictures & Irrelevant Statistics

Just for the entertainment of my American blog readers: pictures of a Swedish Prison. Yes, they have a laptop, a plasma TV and a window with a view. Remarkable is the lack of IKEA furniture. Feel like spending some time there? Too bad, the maximum sentence is generally 12 years for murder. Many lesser crimes are punished by being under electronic surveillance, while living at home and being able to go to work (pubs are not allowed).

Surely this must lead to an anarchy right? Well, not really… Swedens Homicide rate per 100.000 citizens is only 2,3. The Dutch score 0,97. The US’s is 5,9. Singapore’s is only 0,49. And Albania’s citizens totally pwn all other poofs with 87. Murdering must be their national sport or something. I wonder if some of them flee to Baghdad.

In fact, comparing the map of prisoners per 100.000 citizens to the map of murder rates per 100.000 citizens is interesting. I know this comparison is highly unscientific, but I couldn’t help myself. Sorry.
